OK, After all this, I had to go measure mine also. Like I said earlier.....The rod from my 97 auto measures 9 inches center to center of the holes.
The one from the 93 ZF 5 spd measures 4 5/16" center to center.
The one I had to make to work with my ZF and the 4407 transfer case measures 3 5/16 center of hole to center of hole. I don't know if it matters, but I also used the tc shifter from the 4407 auto
that is really strange brad, because i threw mine up on the hoist at work today put the shifter in 2wd and the case in 2wd and it was 4 5/16 pin to pin and thats zf5 and 1356

How is that strange? That just backs up exactly what I have
i did use the shifter that came on the zf5 i did keep the one off my auto as a spare though and they seem to be the same my understanding is the plate that it bolts to on the trans is different from zf to auto though
