Okay, so I volutnteered to help a friend change out a transfer case.
No issues except when we went to disconnect the linkage we (I) broke off a arm from a device that connects the shifter lever to the transfer case (for 4-high / 4-low).
What is the part name? I'm desperate to find a replacement part.
Yikes, all the 'common' parts stores here near Denver are referring me to drive train places. Makes sense I guess, but none of them are open on the weekend. Slackers!
I am not sure what its exact name is called I almost want to say shift linkage but....... I looked on Eds site and nothing there that I was able to find. A junk yard or a trans shop may be your best bet but those both will have to wait until Monday.
Not a welder, hard to say. Sure didn't seem like it was very hard metal when it broke.
Typically you can weld cast iron or steel however it is never as strong as it was. With cast iron you need to put alot of heat in it before you weld. If it is cast aluminum or pot metal you can not weld it will simply burn up rather than melt and reform. To find out if you have iron or pot metal hold a magnet to it if it sticks its iron.
I finally found the part name: "Transfer Case Control Lever".
$185 at rockauto.com, damn.
I'll keep searching for cheaper source (if the pull-n-save doesn't have it)
