Tires

I have a 2005 F250 Super Duty that I've had for 2 years now and need to buy some tires, currently I've got 265\75 R17's on it and want to put something taller and wider on it, normally I would go to my local tire store and see what they have but living in a remote part of Alaska and way off the road system I don't have that option. I find it amazing that I can't fit under a big 4x4 like I have and I can't crawl under it. I don't want to put a lift kit on it if I don't have to and every time I drive up the coast on the sand I get stuck, so I want a tire that will fit on the rims (I believe they are factory Aluminum) I have and be taller and wider than the ones I have on it now, does anyone have a suggestion? how wide a tire and tall can I put on the rims I have now? Thanks for any advise in advance.

The 265/75/17 isn't common, do you have a 265/70/17? If so, the way to go here is the 285/70/17. Wider, taller, fits stock and still looks good if leveled, 10 ply and a lot of choices.

34.50x12.00 fits fine on that year and shouldn't rub, unless you have a really low GFAWR or a heavy front end replacement on 5200# coils.

I ran 295/70R18s (34.5x11.5) without any lift, but the factory 18" rims are 8" wide. If you have 7.5" wide factory 17" rims, I'd look at 285/75R17s. Nitto has redesigned the Terra Grappler, and their new Exo Grappler look interesting.

Hey All!! Thanks for the knowledge, I appreciate it. Think I'm going to go with the 285's and pray I don't have to buy them a plane ticket home.

I went from 265x70x17's to 285x70x17's and I like them a lot.. I put Good Year http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes I hope this link works, these tires last me a long time. There's a lot of other tires that may work better for you if you 'off road' a lot, but I've been in snow in the mountains on forest roads and they did fine...
