I'm looking at this build and thinking that it's put together well, with quality parts. Well enough in my mind that I can't imagine using a cam that docile. You've got more discipline than I.

RIGHT! The hardest part of the build was resisting the lumpy idle. seriously! I did build it where later, if I want, I can shove a bigger cam in with just a spring and head gasket change. BUT I literally chose a cam based on my actual driving, not some strait line day dream with a vicious idle and a pig rich carburetor.

As a side note, I am making more power than many stock headed 400's with much bigger camshafts. I'm getting the flow with my heads and induction, not my cam. Check it out, these tfs 195 power ports flow as much at .300 lift as 2v heads flow at .500 lift. I can make power and keep the overlap low for hopefully better fuel mileage. Also the small cam puts my torque where I need it, down low.

I have no doubts about that statement. None. ~400 lbs/ft @ 1500 rpm and 5000 rpm is one flat impressive torque curve. I'm just thinking you could probably spin it to 5500 with enough low end to still get the job done. Honestly, the rotating assembly of this engine is impressive to me, never mind the top.

That's why I chose a mild cam and the TFS heads. Glad to hear the combo works. Now to build mine.

Injection!

Got the fitech fuel injection installed and took a test drive. A little hick up with the fuel command center, but so far, I will never buy a carburetor again. Up dates coming soon with pictures!

Ok got the FiTech installed and running. The FCC is tied into the vent line for the tank. It does push fuel thru the vent line, but that doesn't seem to effect the operation at all. I think I've read every post online and watched every video on youtube about fitech installs. The Chevy guys seem to have the hardest times with the vent line and with everyone else it seems to work out. At first I just ran the vent thru a filter and dumped to the ground. BUT after the things get warm, it starts the typical FCC puking the fuel out the vent problem. SO slightly disheartened I followed the directions that cam with the FCC, and I tied it into the vent line from the tank. Now it works great. I'm kinda tired of looking at a full filter so I will take it out and connect the vent directly to the vent line. What's a trip, is, as I've been driving around, I would notice a spot that would need to get tuned, ya know, about the time you need to pull over grab some jets, a screwdriver and goto work on the carb, and Bang it corrects itself. The more I drive it the better it runs. Quite nice. I also hooked blue up with a markVIII fan (Dorman 620-118), man does that thing move some air! Only thing what's kinda weird is the FiTech temp sender reads 10-15 degrees lower than the mechanical gauge. Fitech is in the stock location and the mechanical gauge in the thermostat housing. I don't quite know what one to trust. minor issue. You can definitely tell its not carbed anymore, the thing drives and idles smooth. At this point I highly recommend FiTech

I like it! What Gilmer belt system are you using? And what's with the hairnet on the air cleaner?

Flea bay is where I got the pulleys. And the hair net is a pre-filter, It keeps the big stuff off and is fairly waterproof (ok water resistant). I like paper filters but they turn to ick when they get wet, the pre-filter is just a little added assurance.

So, tell us some more about how things are going, and break the 1K barrier at the same time.
