2002 4.0l vin e vs vin k difference

looking to do and engine swap on a 2002 ford explorer 4.0l with a vin E. I am finding a large amount of vin K design engines with flex fuel and I am not seeing a difference in the long blocks. is it just the intake and injector difference in the 2 designs?

I think maybe the difference is the updated Timing Chain parts. The 4.0 engine has had a lot of problems with the timing chain and Camshaft linkage parts sense the entry of the 4.0 engine.

From what I have read, the long blocks are interchangeable, even with Mustang engines. As long as you put your intake and exhaust on it, and whatever accessory drive, the 4.0 SOHC will work. 4x4 motors had counter balancers originally, and later on I think more models got them. But you can put a non-counter balanced motor in a 4x4 without an issue. I do not recall any discussion of E85 vs. gas differences. I'll update with a link in a bit.

A bit:
