I shot video of my truck idling cold and got the hair dryer sound and the tone of the truck after the vanes adjust. Just need to figure how to upload. You do not need to pull the cooler, just the long pipe which is 5 bolts. 2 on each end for mount to respective flanges and 1 small bracket, then simply installing the egr block plates, 2 bolts in each. And this does not need to happen immediately although in my humble opinion, sooner rather than later to keep soot from building up on the closed egr. Tuning must be done first, unplugging the egr 2nd and then dpf removal. Once you get rolling on the project, it isn't bad!

This is my replacement exhaust. Very easy to install, no leaks and easy sound.

^^^^^Can't stress enough the importance of tuning first. Too many have ripped off all of their hard parts only to have issues with the tuning, and had to reinstall everything to make their trucks run again, or wait until the tuning issue was resolved.

I have an H&S MiniMaxx on the truck now and waiting for the delete parts.

Do I need to go back to stock with the tuner so it can do the delete when it loads? I recall when I first installed the tuner it asked about the DPF and tranny tunes but I did neither at the time so I need to get back to where I can turn off the DPF when I do the install.

Steve, I recall it being necessary to reinstall factory before loading the new (delete) tune. I haven't messed with MM in a couple years though.

My first attempt at video. I must say, I appreciate the guys at FTE for pushing my envelope on technology. I am more of a wrench spinner type. anyway, here is what the hair dryer sounds like when i first start up my truck

and what the exhaust tone sounds like once she is warmed up. Pulling the trailer, the is a normal s, somewhat louder tone to the truck but nothing obnoxious. as you can see, i dont have soot and crap all over the back of the truck either. that is very important to me. I need a dependable vehicle that wont leave me stranded just as we all do. Not looking to poison the atmosphere either...

Got the DPF off today and the delete pipe installed. Running with the MiniMaxx at 2 for low boost fueling which doesn't smoke unless I get on it, might lower it a bit.

I unplugged the 2 EGR connectors but I have a block off kit to install. Is it the longer pipe that goes from down between the EGR coolr and engine that comes out or the short one that goes left to right?

You want to remove the one that is bolted to the manifold. The soot will build up between the manifold and the closed egr valve. The other one between the closed egr and the intake only sees clean air going by it. start soaking the bolts thou with penetrating oil, especially the ones attached to the exhaust manifold and be very careful and take your time taking then out. If they start to bind up on the way out spray again and run them back in a bit then back out. You definitely don't want to break then off. Shouldn't be that tough thou.

Can you do an EGR delete and leave the DPF intact?

No it needs to be tuned. Pretty sure the egr is used during regen to introduce more soot into your engine and create stupid temps necessary to burn the crap out of the super restrictor in your exhaust. Along with huge amounts of excess fuel, all in order to save the environment. Not to mention all that horse **** it burns, and the carcinogen effects of its by products of combustion. Awesome technology, love that filter!

Thanks. Was hoping I delete the EGR for reliability but retain the DPF so I could pass a visual smog inspection here in California.
