PHP VS DP or other tuner

i want some input on the 2, or another brand. if you have run both that is what im looking for. i like the FU form PHP , dose DP have one like that? i dont want to lay down 1000 hp just better pulling and MPG. i dont like smoke unless i want it, so no smoke tunes are what im looking for. and i want smooth tran shifts and low EGTs. i know i want the world but i dont want to have to buy 3 of them to find the one i like.
i dont wont this to turn in to mines bigger then yours just your like and dislikes of them.

I have not run both, but this is what I have noticed from my DP Tuner:
  • Increased Pedal Response
  • Increased Power
  • Increased black smoke
  • More black smoke after the truck has run for a while
  • No MPG change (but did get a power increase)
  • Switching to my mild tow tune (80tow) on grades, even when unloaded, my EGTs drop 200-400*
  • Around town EGTs are well in control under 800* even when using agressive driving

90% of driving in 80E tune. There is smoke, but not unless you step on it. I keep RPMs under 2k and dont see smoke often. I also only have 80e and 80t to compare against stock.

I've had both.

The DP smoked more than the PHP does. The power is similar, but the main reason I moved from DP to PHP is that the DP was super loud when my truck was cold - like sounds like the engine is going to rip itself apart loud. The PHP is only slightly louder than the stock tune. DP was fine once the engine warmed up though.

Shifting was better on the DP. PHP is nice and smooth, but I like the shift points and torque converter lockup better on the DP.

EGTs are similar for similar power levels.

Both tow way better than stock. Mileage is a tad better with either than stock, but only if you don't like to play with the extra power.

Any specific questions, I'd be happy to answer.

I'm very interested in this thread as well as I am stuck between the two. One thing that's pushing me to the FU is the ability to change tunes as often as I'd like, and it's a TS chip which can be reburned by all tuners; that and they are supposedly having some kind of sale coming up. I've heard that DP has the best customer service though, and Jody's live tunes are second-to-none.

I think this is a case of six of one, and half-dozen of the other. Can't go wrong with either.

i just got my DP today and it is night and day from my old hypertech. it does smoke more but only under heavy acceleration. the drive ability in the 80e turn is so much smoother than stock or with the hypertech. i am very pleased with mine!

I have a DP know and a six speed and I like it a lot but I have also been thinking of a change. I have talked to johnathan at beans and he is one of the nicest people I have ever meet. He told me about his tunes and none of the tunes are much different between all the tuners some smoke more than others but they all make about the same power. Can't comment on the automatic guys. But think you will be happy with witch ever you choose and they all offer live tuning if you want to pay for it.

i have had both too...no offense to anyone...but hands down the DP was a better tune for MY TRUCK. the PHP didnt seem to have the same power at the DP. i know this could be my truck and each truck is different, but it was like nite and day. cory and bill at PHP are great guys to talk to and ask questions, but at least for my truck, with my set-up the DP really woke it up. i also had Cale's when he was at the truck shop...not his new tyrant ones. his were similar to PHP's...but overall, id go with DP best money i spent so far

Are you sorry you asked now??

This site is pretty fair between all the tuners, but it will be up to you in the end. As someone else said, ask very specific questions

I have the FU chip from PHP and love the tunes and the fact that I can switch tunes whenever I want. I am actually gonna be getting together with some guys this weekend that have DP tunes in there trucks and we are gonna swap chips around to see the differance's. The mods are about the same in each truck so it should be a good test. I will report back what we find out.
