My brake controller doesn't always show connection and then sometimes does. However I don't power to the brakes either time. This just started after putting on new brakes. Vehicle F350, 2004, Don't know where to start looking.
If you pull the break-away pin, do your trailer brakes engage. Try this with the trailer unplugged from your seven pin and just try it then put the pin back in.

Yes they engage, but when the 7 pin is plugged in and breakaway pin is in there is no power to brakes.

Since you know the trailer brakes work, you can forget everything on the trailer from the junction box back. I would suggest focusing on the seven pin connection between your truck and the trailer. Do all the trailer light work when plugged into the truck?
Steve, why I asked about 5er or tag along is what is he using for a ground? If a tag-along, is he using a dedicated ground or depending on the hitch ball to connect the trailer ground to the truck..... a hitch ball ground can surely cause a on again-off again connection.

On your seven pin on your truck working the controller manually, what kind of voltage are you getting between the pin for the brakes and the ground pin?

I agree.i just haven't seen anything without s dedicated grounding pin for years. I know it is a code violation to manufacture without one, so hopefully they are few and far between.
Most truck-side trailer wiring recepticals have their ground wire connected via a crimp on connector screwed to the chassis.. More than half of all automotive eletrical problems are related to ground issues...

Easy to determine bad ground. Brake pin and ground pin voltage and if low, brake pin and chassis voltage.
Steve. Sorry took so long to answer. Had to run to town....I'm getting 11.85 at receptacle.
Now you know the controller is sending power to the pin. Your voltage is a little low, but should be enough to work the brakes.
Now since you know you have power, your next focus would be the seven pin connection between your truck and trailer. With the seven pin connected, have someone work the controller manually and take a voltage reading on the blue lead at the junction box on the trailer. The voltage there should be the same as it was at your truck.
