Injector Solenoid Pack Color Question?
Hey guys, just a quick question about injector solenoid colors and their meaning. I have a customer's vehicle here that definitely has a bad injector, the customer has another 7.3 engine at home with what he thinks is good injectors. The truck he has here is a 2002 f-550 7.3 utility truck. Well he can't tell me the year of the 7.3 engine he has sitting at home but know's it's between 1998 and 2003. He's had lots of other shops work on this thing and it has random injectors in it I've never seen or heard of. The injector's in the vehicle are brown color'd solenoid packs with a metal piece over the center of the injector pack with it's information on it, three of them in the driver side bank are that way and the other injector looks like an original like what was stock in my 01 and 02 F-350 7.3. But he brought me in an injector out of his other 7.3 engine that's in his garage and the solenoid pack is yellow and he's cleaned it with brake clean so the serial numbers and i.d is gone off the top of the solenoid pack. The only injectors I've ever seen that had yellow solenoid packs are my Stage 2 Alliants injectors in my 02. So my question is, is there anyway to identify what this injector is? I don't believe it belongs in this year engine so I told him no at this point.

From that I've seen, the solenoids with metal tags are remanufactured injectors from the dealer. Yellow solenoids come from CAT....but could also be remanufactured. There really isn't any way to determine what injector is actually under the solenoid because solenoids can be swapped at any time along the way.
