Thought you guys would appreciate this. We pop tested a 7.3 IDI injector and an HEUI injector in class. The IDI injector was popping at 1800 psi and the HEUI was popping at 4600? IIRC.
I saw the vids, watched em' and forgot to respond awhile back John, Was the IDI one a BB? If so, it was popping slightly low. Should be around 1900psi.
It isn't a HEUI.. They are Hydraulically actuated Electronic Unit Injector. There are several engines that use them. The power stroke being the most common to most people. I have one of those pumps and they are fun to play with. The only thing those will test are nozzles. It is called a VOP test. Valve Opening Pressure. Injectors have to be in a testing block made like a head. You have to run a fuel supply and an oil supply then hit them with electricity.
I had a chance to buy a pump stand and like an idiot was messing around and missed it. Was at an auction.
Nice Vids. I always like classroom instruction as well as real life. You can learn allot.
The DT 466s are HEUI also. I'm sure Catfish already knows this.
I used to write off the system as just overly complicated but they have at least one good point......if you loose oil pressure your engine quits running.
Pretty hard to destroy your motor by an oil pressure loss that way.
I stiil prefer the simplicity of the standard mechanical IP and injector system however.
