FICM Voltage

I am noticing that my FICM Voltage reading in my Livewire SCT is going below 45 volts when I am drive at 80 MPH; is that normal or is my FICM going bad?

Thanks

Ideally the voltage should stay steady at 48-49 volts at all times. 45v has been adopted as the acceptable minimum with anytime dipping below that would indicate that it is time to have it sent out for a once over.

It is the start of the end. You can either get a new power board from dorman, or send it to ed at FICMrepair.com He does a great job and bulletproofs the FICM.

And do it before it starts to cause injector issues.

yep, should work fine. Be careful of the clips, make sure the plugs click back in.

You can get the Dorman power source for $200 from O'Reilly's if it is the 4 bolt/screw version.

You can, but when the power board starts failing, you never know if the logic board has a problem and there is no procedure for it to be tested unless you have a shop like Ed.

The team at FICMrepair.com appreciate the support, guys. A higher percentage of modules than is thought actually do have logic board issues causing inadequate output on the FICM Main Power (FMP) reading.

We've sadly seen entirely too many cases where someone buys a 'half shell' from somewhere only to find out that their issue is not yet resolved. The sad upshot in those cases is that they end up spending money twice. Ugh.

So...while there are a true litany of places to go to get your FICM issues resolved, we'd love the chance to earn your business! (yep, we work on the logic AND power sides of the module and you don't get a 'Made in China' result, either...).

Regardless of where you go to get your issues resolved, PLEASE be sure to check out the health of your charging system as FICM's essentially never die - they are nearly always killed. Nothing quite like the sinking feeling of spending hard earned dollars on a part only to see it die an untimely death in a few days, weeks, or in exceptionally bad cases, seconds.

Check out ficmrepair.com - truly LOADS of information on there. We can even do an exchange for you with a pre-programmed and ready to go module.

If you have a specific question, please feel free to contact us. We're glad to help you out!

I would change the FICM power relay before I installed the used FICM.

I replaced the FICM yesterday and I did not see the FICM's voltage drop below 47.5 volts on my scanner. I guess the FICM is going bad and it needs to go to Ed.

Thanks guys.

Thanks guys.
Glad to hear that now at least you know. It's sort of tough to be on the receiving end of a call we make where we tell someone that the module that they sent in was fine (meaning that now the diagnostic begins to determine what the true issue is).

We'll look forward to taking great care of you!

Just please be sure to thoroughly check that charging system prior to installing the new FICM!
