Thinking about this truck but I've never had a diesel. It will won't be a DD, more for hauling a pop up, fourwheeler, and dirt bikes around, and for when the weather is bad. Owner will take cash- $2700. Decent? I have not seen it yet. Most of the similiar trucks in this area are either trashed and worth nothing, or they are super nice and the owners want $8500.
I am working my way through the FAQ. Some of it is like a foreign languange. I would of course try to negotiate it down. What do you see about the lift that makes you wary? Just the fact that it's lifted, or the kit/workmanship quality? I know it's a bit long but I would like to do some moderate trails one day.
Well I don't really know a whole lot about lifts, but I do know there is a right way and a wrong way to lift a vehicle. Has this truck been converted to a solid front axle? 250's would have come stock with the TTB front suspension. Hopefully that's been change for a Dana 60 straight axle. If not, I'd for sure be wary.....
There aren't many pics to go off of. I'd say if it's done right it looks to be a good truck.
You won't be disappointed with the reliability of an idi. My only concern is, again, with the lift. Is it done right? You won't know until you look, and at that height, you probably want the d60. Also, a lift impedes hauling/towing capabilities, you will find the truck may seem unstable. Seeing as you will be using it to haul four wheelers, do you really need a lift? A lot of people would be surprised with what a stock height truck can do.

The $64,000 question. The pic (nb: I'm always skeptical of CL ads with only one pic) suggests a front spring that's not "upside down", which would suggest it has a Dana 60. But since a Dana 60 increases the value of an F250 more than any other mod, why is it not mentioned in the text? There's an outside chance that the seller doesn't really know what he has.
Rust is the other major caveat. What you see can be fixed easily. Gotta look for what you DON'T see - frame, suspension parts, core support.
I don't need a lifted truck but I want something that doesn't require an engineering degree to fix, around $2K and is not a total rust bucket. Plus, I have 3 kids so it must have at least an ext. cab. That combo is hard to find in my area. People want $2500 for a 1994 Z71 with blown head gaskets, a slipping tranny and 300K miles on it.
Compromised towing makes it questionable then. I know little about whether a lift or SAS is done right, so if I get serious about it, I'll take it to the local 4x4 shop for an inspection.
Per seller, the PO installed the lift and did SAS. Good eye Madpogue! Said it's either Skyjacker or Rough Country. It also had 8 ft. bed which is really better for the four wheeler and dirt bikes. If the interior is good and rust is superficial I could always drop it back down a bit.
Bare minimum, you're gonna need some running boards or steps with a family getting in and out of a truck with that much lift. Even with the boards/steps, I would seriously look into LESS lift, or removing it completely, if possible. There may be a place for a truck that high, but I can't imagine the wife and kids wanting to deal with it on an ongoing basis. So if the lift isn't a big deal to decommission, and the lift parts have some resale value, that puts it back in the ball park.
But you mention rust - again, look where it's NOT visual/cosmetic.
Check the health of the Eng you have plenty stuff to check and worry about more than the lift , Head gasket holding pressure or not , Block cavitation if the correct Antifreeze wasn't used , Maintenance record , Injector health , Cold start check ..etc
However i love my F350 IDi which i bought it after it sat for 8 years with 130k miles knowing what i am getting my self into , Some TLC and she is running like clock work and fires right up unplugged .
IMO $2700 is little on the High side though for extend and 91 model
I would have the 4x4 shop do a full pre-purchase inspection; motor, lift, frame, etc. The wife is EX-wife. lol... I would haul her around if weather is bad but otherwise she can get her own. It's not a daily driver, and the kids are still young enough I can lift them up, but yes a step or two would be prudent.
So if this was a truck that seemed good after a purchase inspection mechanically and cancer-wise, what would you all pay? In this area they tend to be extremes- junk or monster turbo magazine quality... so I don't have much to base it from. $2K? less?
$1600-$1800 Max . But as they say there is always the Right AZZ for every seat . So if that's the right seat for you then get it check and see the lowest you can get it for
