crankcase vent

Finally got my 54 truck with 239 ohv running tonight and after I let it run for a few minutes I noticed oil underneath. I had forgot to put crankcase canister back on and was wondering if its normal to have oil coming out. Even if canister was on is it supposed to have oil going to or in it.

If you are talking about the oil filter canister, yes, the oil is under pressure in it when the engine is running. If you are talking about the filler cap, no, the oil should not come out.

If you're talking about the road draft canister on the side, yes it will leak. There is provision in it to drain oil back into the block. Dennis

Don't do what I did....I thought I had a lot of blow by from my 239, but really it was just my draft tube leaking from the inner side closest to the block. And...almost all draft tubes leak alittle especially after all these years and them getting banged around.
