break line replacement help

So I blew a brake line today and i need some help with trying to fix it... its the line that runs from the rabs to the rear axle where it junctions off. it is a steel line so i am assuming that it is finally rusted out. Do i need to drop the front tank to get in there? Also, is there anything i need to keep in mind? What fittings should i use and how does the fitting unscrew from the RABS? All i know is that i need a double flare tool and need to bleed brakes when im done.

Do i need to take the wheels off to bleed the brakes??

Do i need a tool to bend the metal brake pipes??

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated...

These trucks are getting old. If the lines are all original, I would replace them all at the same time right now. Otherwise, you'll be fighting them one at a time for years. Trust me. It happened to me. I got a pre-bent set. I'll try to find a link here in a minute.

Edit: It was a seller named Inline Tube on eBay. I got stainless prebent lines. Replaced them all with only vise-grips and combo wrenches. Still haven't bled them. What can I say? I'm a slacker. Haha

I had the lines mounted on the axle all replaced but I need to replace the ones in the frame rail. But isn't there only one line that runs from the RABS to the axle?

Yeah. I would replace every hard line that was installed at the factory at this point if I were you. It's a long line, I guess depending on your wheelbase, as you can see by looking at it. You could probably replace the segment from the RABS to the leak or from the leak to the little frame fitting where it connects to the rubber hose, whichever is shorter or makes more sense. Just double flare the ends, and connect them with a union.

So u think it'd be worth it to drop the tank bec I don't see how I can get in there and work on it without dropping it...

If you don't want to drop the tank just run the new line in through it and frame

You can fish it behind the tank no problem, that is the least of your concerns.

Flaring the line will be your problem

Yeah, you shouldn't have any issues with the tank.
