Fuel filter question

Hi folks,
Im new to the forum and new to the diesel truck world. Just picked up a 2012 6.7L Super duty. 30,500 Miles. I noticed while checking over the truck that the secondary fuel filter assembly has 3 ports instead of 2. From what I have read, the filter with 3 ports is from the factory and the service part only has 2 ports. Can this mean that the fuel filter has never been changed? Im not receiving any fuel messages on the screen but thinking I should change the filters anyway. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

That's right your fuel filter is from the factory. That would be at the top of my "to-do" list.

First- welcome to FTE, we love pics around here!

Second- I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. At that mileage, you're probably only on your second recommended fuel filter interval, and the one under the hood is the second one in the line, as you know. The frame mounted one under the truck could be said to do all the "heavy lifting", so that underhood one not being changed once shouldn't be that big an issue.

As said before, just change it out when you get a chance, and motor on!

If you just bought it maybe the place will do the service to it like it should have been.

Don't forget the lower one as well.

Be careful and use a strap and a wrench when you break the seal for the primary filter.

The housing is plastic.

When you put the new one in and put the housing back on be sure to lube it with diesel engine oil on the o ring. It will be easier next time.

The filter kits that come from Ford have the O-Ring pre-greased, my experience so far is that it comes apart the second time after putting the pre-greased 0-ring in relatively easily.
