Door striker post/bushing replacement

Door striker post/bushing replacement
I got some striker post bushings for a couple bucks to replace my missing ones on my 77 f150.
I began to unbolt the striker and the nut or whatever holds the striker to the door post was moving around. I have no idea what is back there. I really really don't want to loose the nut by having it fall down to the bottom of the door post. I stopped loosening and re-tightened the post.
I imagine the post position is supposed to be adjustable and maybe all is normal, but I really don't want to have that nut drop.
Any help/advise/instructions?
