Probably another chapter in my "shoulda done that a long time ago" truck maintenance, decided to install a remanufactured Autolite 2100 w/ the 1.02" size venturi. Should be here today, in fact. This was the stock size with 292, and flows 245 cfm. The 4412 is more than twice that. Be interesting to see how it idles and performs.

Hm, just opened the box now. They sent 1.14 venturi size instead of the 1.02 that is stock, that's what I ordered.

None of the 64 F series trucks shipped with other than 1.02" venturi, afaik. 1.08" would (maybe) have been OK, but 1.14" would be suitable for a performance modded 292 engine. ****ers.

The 1.14 is for a 352.
Seems like they gave you something close and let it slide.

Yeah Not a happy camper. We'll see how they handle it.

Did a little more research Ted.
They used 1.14s on 289s in large bodied cars also.
Obviously it'll run fine, but it's not what you ordered.

This is true. I thought of that, but the compression ratio would likely be different? By 64 Y blocks were only 8 to 1, different cam duration, etc, plus the weight of F100 would be quite a bit heavier. It's just a different application.

My thinking was try the OEM setup and see how it runs, fuel economy (such as it is) etc. Asked the seller about the venturi and the installed jet sizes - and received no reply. To their credit received an email right away on Saturday that things will get checked out tomorrow.

The picture of the carb clearly shows 1.02", so figured I was OK at the time. They cost an arm and a leg, when it's a $25 carb basically. Convenience has its own advantage, bench flowed and should be "plug and play". Ok so pulled the trigger and got burned.

They could have avoided wasting my time, sending the wrong part. Hell, I'll probably have to go the post office too and deal with those *******s sending this one back, then wait another week for a replacement.

Assuming of course, they actually have a manual choked 1.02 venturi carb ready to go, that I doubt. Parts are always a chinese fire drill with this era truck.

I hear you, and don't get me wrong I'm not saying use this one.
Figure since the weather sucks, you have the time to get the right part.

Yep. Just got off the phone with them after a bit of email tag. They are eBay seller "Topspeed1559" and gotta say, the guy is on it and gonna make sure to get the right size carb off this week. It's good to see some good old fashioned customer service.

Well the carb showed up today. Did have to rustle up a 5/16 air cleaner stud bolt and a vacuum hose fitting, and bend some new fuel line. Got it installed and it fired right up. No leaks no runs no errors. Idles real nice and the choke was adjusted just right. Mixture was too rich, but earballed that. Miss the manifold vacuum port already.

Exhaust sounds a lot better for some reason. Nice low end good and torquey and crisp throttle. A bit doggy at full throttle as expected tho realistically a lot better fit for this engine. We'll see how the plugs look once road trip weather returns, not sure what jets are installed. 48,46,44 are stock depending elevation.

Cool
Hope you guys get rid of this cold weather soon.
Really not good for our hobby.
Edit
I went back and read our earlier posts since we were theorizing a bit.
Post 18 where I said the shot size is determined by the chamber size while true is not the entire picture.
Cam profile also determines the size of the shot, coupled with the chamber size.

Well it's giving good cold start practice. Different routine, have to actually use the choke to get it started now ha ha.
