mystery switch! what could it possible do?

Hey guys! Thanks for your time!

OK so I recently got this truck 99 7.3 psd for super duty!

I was wiring up a cab radio [connex 3600 hp]..... I found this mystery switch and also black box.... The black box says Auto mate model 410. From Google it appears to be a car alarm.....
However the switch I have no clue.... I haven't had a chance to trace to wires but it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the black box!

IV seriously debated on flipping the switch but knowing my luck the universe will emplode........ I guess the only way to know for sure is tracing the wires but I wanted to see other people's ideas on what it might do!

Any ideas! Thankz!

The box appears to be an alarm/keyless entry controller. More info on where the wires from the switch lead to would help.

Looks like a hacked up wiring job, but the only way to find out is to follow the wiring. I wouldn't be able to hold back like you did I would have flipped that switch

Maybe it's a valet switch for an alarm.

Is it just me or does the switch have 5 different wires on it? I have two switches (one for off-road lights and one for aux fuel pump) but I only run two wires to each switch. Start the truck and flip the switch and see what happens. Then try flipping the switch and try to start the truck. Might be a homemade kill switch as it would appear to be under the dash panel.

I had a much better looking setup on my SD when I had it. All it was was an on/off switch for the alarm. Looks to be exactly that... Just a lot uglier then mine was

The blue wire add-on messes it up. Take the blue wire out of the picture and it's not so bad. Mind you... I said "not so bad".

This is my version of installing a switch with a lot of wires:

I can't help you any more than the others did other than speculate. I'd speculate either an alarm cut off or a hidden switch to prevent the engine from starting. To me it's ironic that this get posted as I have a similar situation except my switch is plainly on the dash next to the steering wheel. I played with mine to no avail. It makes no difference in anything anywhere anyhow. However, my alarm system has a siren under the hood which has been disconnected and I'm leaning towards it being an alarm siren silencer.

my bet is an old style snow plow headlight transfer switch.
in one position it lets the truck headlights work. flip the switch and it turns the truck headlights off and turns the aftermarket add on snow plow headlights on.

Agreed, not a bad job on the butt connectors. It appears two different people made connections at that switch.

Whatever it is, that blue wire needs to be re-terminated properly. The fact that it has four wires, plus that add on blue wire leads me away from a Valet Switch on the Alarm (those are usually only two wire providing contact I think) and more of a true switch of two different devices....lights as suggested or some sort of cut-off that is killing ignition and ??

The green and red wire went here? This just raises more questions for me....... wtf was this... A fuel pump?

The other greenish blue wire went to the fuses box..... The black wire went to a ground....

The gray wire-

The gray wire went to this relay.... The wire with the black wrap around it - appears to go to the batter at one point.... it appears to have broke off.

I haven't traced the yellow wire on the relay....

I also found this! Two wires that are not stock - going to the fuel tank.

The truck has a after market fuel gauge because the one in the dash cluster is bad..... I think this is what the wires are for..... This was done before I got the truck!

Well. Now what does everyone think?

Hutch mod gone bad? Pre-Hutch days? Aux pump in tank? If I saw a bunch of mystery spaghetti going to the fuel tank and a dead stock fuel gauge, step one would be burn down the fuel and drop the tank to assess what I'm up against.
