Ranger emissions issues
Lossening that 10mm bolt (it does not come all the way out) allowed me to pull off the connector and get to cleaning it. I used two products. Electrical contact cleaner first to get the gunk loosened and a product made by Caig that goes even further to remove oxidation and provide some protection to the contacts. This stuff I swear by.
I also used a piece of bare wire that was the exact same diameter of the pins to rout out each female socket hole. Lots of crud was removed using this wire followed by more contact spray. Repeated over and over. Finally a liberal coating of DeoxIT D5 to each side then reassemble.
I also found a second large connector block that I did the same for. This one was located next to the EGR solenoid. Similar 10mm bolt method to secure the half's together.
Cleared the codes and went for a ride. Low and behold, the original two codes I was working on did not come back. Even after a 110 mile trip Sunday they are not there any longer.
However, I have three new codes all to do with the 02 sensors for the exhaust and catalytic converter. I think that is due to my pulling those three small connectors to each of those sensors apart on Saturday. They may need to be thoroughly cleaned, as well.
More to come
I have driven mine on salt covered roads and see white deposits all up over the engine compartment.
