I assume you mean instead of the 6.69 granny gear? Swap in a 4.56 first gear from a Dodge or GM.
However, a 4.56 is still way high numerically given that passenger cars typically range from the high 2.xx to mid 3.xx.

A possible option would be a T-19 from a mid 80s Ford diesel. They supposedly had a 4.02 1st, 2.41 2nd, 1.41 3rd and all gears synchroed. It should bolt right up. If you have a married transfer case I dont know if you would bolt is straight up to the T-19 out of the diesel but you could always use the diesel transfer case?
