I went to O'reilly's auto parts today. They have a OBDII code reader to rent but the guy told me it wouldn't work on a diesel. Then he said that he didn't know of a reader other than a tuner. I have searched the net for a diesel code reader, diagnostic tools, and such and have not come up with a diesel specific code reader. There are several that are OBDII that claim they are good for all vehicles '96 or newer. I would like to have one but plan on getting a flip chip and not a tuner. Dealer wants a hundred bones to do a diagnostics.
OK. Went Autozone. The guy there plugged in his code reader. I started the truck and the reader scanned. It came up PASS. He said everything is good. Is that all there is to it? Or is that a very simplified method? I have a code reader for my '90 half ton and it requires some messing with the throttle at certain times and such. I guess I was kinda disappointed cause I wanted to do a cylinder comparison to see if I had a weak cylinder.
