5r110 solenoids

Getting parts together to switch to a 08 pan and filter for the next fluid change.

My questions is with the 3 second delay from R to D and D to R and a slight shift flare, do I switch the epc solenoid and the direct clutch while I have it out? stock or modified? who makes the best ones?
thanks in advance!

Solenoids. Not a happy topic for me right now.
Well not about a $4500 unhappy topic.

Good luck and keep things clean. I think I'll
pull my two solenoids out of the core before I
send it back and stick them on the shelf.

Ouch so you did have to pull it after all and get it replaced.

Have not yet removed it from the truck. BUT I am in the process
of getting the cash in hand to just do it and not keep throwing cash
at at the problem. Also with what Mark pointed out with the last set
of DTCs I am expecting to find some broken hard parts in the case.

So that is where I am at with it. The only question is do I do the work
and hurt myself or pay the shop to do it and hurt my wallet.

I have found that in life if you can pick the battles you pick the ones
you can win.

The shop I was going to use had about 50% bad reviews on google. Not
going to do that one The dealership I want to do it said $5500 to do it all.
I can get them to cut a bit over $1000 off if I give then the trans and
they don't do a diagnostics. So I think I may be going to go that route.
If I had the tools to do the cooler flushing and know I did a good job I might
try this myself. A good friend said he would help. I have a few more days
to think on this. It's not like the truck is going anywhere any time soon.

Solenoids, you don't have to rebuild the whole trans to change them do you? I've been told #18 on mine is weak as well. Brain at BTS mentioned this for me. I never asked about doing the whole thing.

If it is just a solenoid then you don't have to take the trans all the way apart.
You just have to pull the pan and the one your working on for the most part.

It's interesting that you have a problem with #18 solenoid. There are seven solenoids in the transmission.

Mark, the truck has 80K on it. The thing is sometimes off road with my 5th wheel, it's 15 to 16K also, it won't move out of its own way. I've put 4.56 gears front and back, and if I step on the pedal, the tire won't even spin. It runs good, pulls the weight good on the freeway, and even with modifier in the diff., it grabs on one tire to much unloaded. So all I can say is what I've been told by Brian @ BTS. What's your thought. Oh and the trans fluid never goes over 170 or so pulling that load in the AZ desert. Would appreciate your input! I mean won't spin on the asphalt, I don't beat this truck just seems with those gears tries should move, there 35's for got that point.

You should talk to Brian again. He didn't tell you solenoid 18 is weak. You need to find out what he told you. There is no such thing as #18 solenoid.

I think you have an engine problem, not a transmission problem.

Thanks Mark, I'll check my paper work but I'm sure that's what he said. Engine is fine. plenty of boost and power, and know codes. I was sure some time ago someone posted up solenoids and showed number 18 but I guess I could be wrong or thinking something else.

Mark I found this, EPC=Electronic Control Solenoid, controls line pressure in trans#18. Is this something else, if so can it be replaced without complete rebuild? Thank you
God bless.

The number 18 refers to the number in schematic. https://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=...21517505816931

Thank you google.
