The C6 in my van is crapping out, considered swapping in an AOD for the overdrive. Question is how would it hold up? I've heard both ends of the spectrum.

I don't haul heavy loads often, but do occasionally. It's only a 2wd cargo van, but I beat the hell out of it offroad a few place that it will go, and am considering a 4wd swap. My biggest concern was it holding up to the offroad abuse couple times a week, then giving me that overdrive for daily interstate.
Any thoughts, suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.
i would stick with a c6 tranny. they are very good and strong tranny. i know you might have a bad one now but nothing stays new for life, everything has it time. a aod is not as strong of a tranny as the c6.
The stock AOD was only really made to go behind the 302's. Anything bigger than that and it won't hold up very well. You can upgrade the AOD to withstand a big block, but can be expensive.
Right now, the OD is a hot topic. Transmission Companies are making a killing on overdrive units and rebuilds, IMO. They are just playing the market because many people are trying to look into OD units for older vehicles not equipped with OD.
