Hey, I took my truck to a shop to get it diagnosed for a check engine light and the tech told me that these two codes came up...
po231 and po505
my truck doesn't idle very well at all, in fact when I start it it dies immediately. If I give it steady throttle when I start it, it revvs up and down repeatedly. Now I changed my fuel filter, due to it being pretty clogged, and the tech said that was probably the reason why the po231 code was up (fuel pump circuit high). The pump was trying to work extra hard to pump thru my clogged filter.
Everything else checked out ok according to the tech, and it passed smog with flying colors...
He thinks it might be the fuel pump going bad, or the muffler being clogged enough to create backpressure...I don't know, but it would mean more money if he tore into it to check more fully.
Anybody out there have a similar problem? oh yeah... 98 XLT 2.5L manual SC

Oh yeah, about a week and a half ago I used Prestone Fuel Injector cleaner with that Boost octane booster mixed in it. Would that have made any problems worse? All this happened a little while after I used that...
