check the pump faulty pumps are possible even new, if it wont draw fuel up from the line then too much air or the gas is on too steep a angle to feed into the carb if its bone dry

I took the line off the pump and cranked it over and can feel it sucking pretty good and ive poured gas down the carb and let it run but it dies after about 5 seconds

if the tank is not completely full then you got air in the tank trapping the gas at the bottom, fill the tank completely full and keep cranking until it pumps through that should work

Whitepos72, Welcome to and the Bumpside Forum.

I don't agree with the full to the top gas tank. Gas will gravity flow from the tank to the pump. You should be able to remove the tank side hose at the pump and gas run out. If not you have a blockage. I would blow air into the hose from the pump back to the tank with the cap off or loose to see if it started flowing. If the gas is flowing at the pump, then the pump should move it to the carb. Just wondering do you have a clear inline filter up on top that you can see if there is gas up there. You don't have to, I just happen to have one on mine, I can see gas in it.

I did have to pull my tank after rebuild, and sloshed around, pour it out from the filler a couple times to get rid of debree in the tank that was causing problems. Try that before you have to deal with a full tank.

Who rebuilt the motor? You did remember the fuel pump eccentric on the cam gear, right?
Take a tiny funnel or a squeeze bottle and fill the float bowl through the bowl vent tube. This should allow the motor to run long enough to pick up fuel from the tank.

the truck is on a angle with only 8 gallons in it, the air may be trapping gas where it will not pump if it is bone dry, my two cents, could be wrong probably am :/ i give up

Jowiliker is right

If you remove the fuel line from the fuel pump/fuel filter....gas will just pour and pour and go all over the place with just gravity. If it doesn't, then you have a blockage somewhere toward the tank. Check your filter too.
But don't fill the tank....no need.

Backfill the fuel line btwn the carb and the pump to create a vacuum on the opposite side of the fuel pump diaphram... use something like a turkey baster from the kitchen...

And if you do use a turkey baster, ya might oughtta buy a new one lest the wife/GF gets wind of what you used it for.

At 8 gallons the tank is about half full. I am not trying to be hard on you but I don't understand this trapped air concept. Air will bubble up up to the top and out.

I dont' if this well help at all. But I was experiencing something similar. I used a short piece of rubber hose, connected it to the intake on the fuel pump and then stuck the other end in a small portable gas can.
Also, I used compressed air and forced air back through the fuel line from the fuel pump to the gas tank. That helped get fuel to flow. Ended up cleaning out my fuel lines and then fuel tank.

Apparently the laws of physics operate differently in parts of UT.

There is a short piece of rubber hose under the cab that connects the metal line from the tank to the metal line to the pump. This hose often rots with age and will get plugged. I have had this happen on several vehicles.
