I am currently rebuilding a '96 power-stroke. The motor is totally rebuilt, and I want to put injectors in it for a little extra bang. Could you run a stage 1.5, 160cc injector with a 30%over tip with just a new compressor wheel in the turbo?
You can, yes. You will be pushing the limits of the stock compressor, but as long as you don't sled pull, or race it, you should be in decent shape. You don't want to push the stock compressor much beyond 30 PSI on a regular basis or you will be on borrowed time with it. A lot of it will be determined by how you use the truck and how reasonably you drive it.
I should also mention that if you go bigger than stage 1's with your truck you are likely going to need other supporting modifications (Intercooler, bigger HPOP, possibly electronic fuel pump system). Another notable thing is that if you're running a stock automatic transmission, you'll be on borrowed time with that as well with the power that you'll be making with those injectors. It all starts with "a little extra bang", next thing the "bang" is coming from the transmission! haha.
Thanks DIYMechanic! I greatly appreciate the input. I've totally rebuilt the tranny with a Suncoast transmission kit, and it has a tugger valve body kit on it as well. I also already have an electronic fuel set up, and a rebuilt, modded 17' hpop. Its going to be a daily driver/ Work truck, so I want to be able to tow trailers long distance, but I also want it to be fun to drive. Just kind of weighing my options I suppose.
Get an intercooler hooked i n and you will have a good little toy there.
Just do the 1s .I think you will be plenty good..its a slippery slope from here tho!
