i need to put a handle on the pass. side, my wife is 5ft nothing and my older brother has a hard time getting in. I made my own steps which helped, but they need something to grab. What have some of you made or bought or ????? I like this handle but cant find anything like it,i think it would be better up on the A pillar, heres the steps.THANKS Gary.
I went to a junk yard and pulled 4 out of some random vehicle that looked like the color may match the inside of my Bronco.
I was a little concerned about the possible need for reinforcement of the attach points, but when I looked at the donor vehicle, there was nothing behind there but two threaded inserts.
I put them in place and used self tapping screws to mark holes easily, then drilled and installed a few riv-nuts and have been happy with them. A pair on the A-pillars and a pair overhead has worked out well. I think it may have cost $30.oo for the whole shebang.
Totally subjective anecdote: I once gave a fat guy a ride and they didn't budge when he applied weight to them.
Sounds like you need a smooth mount A pillar grab handle like new trucks. You can get some fairly flush mounted ones, that do not require the plastic cover moulding piece, that might work from a 98-02 Dodge Ram.
Ck the passenger side ceiling grab handle. Pop the snap on cover off and then take a star bit size(?) and get some off there. There are black/charcoal and tan ones. Maybe in a newer Dakota too?
I get those and put them on the dvrs side ceiling of my Dodge, for some reason Dodge doesn't put them there and the nut plate is under there anyway.
After that you will need to get some Jack Nuts, Well Nuts or Nut-sert's (with installation tool) from Lowe's or Fastenall ect...and ones that fit that metric hdwr and then install them in your A pillar.
As far as that dash handle I an sure you can bend up something (since you made that push bar) and attach it, just use a reinforcement plate behind the dash. That one in the pic looks like a cabinet handle or metal desk draw pull.
FYI wrap the bottom part of you step in 1/2 expanded metal, see the Bronco roll bar area, right at the bottom of the passenger side? Do that for some none slip help or get some sticky none skid tape or use paint and toss a little sand on it before it dries.
THANKS! Both some great ideas guy's. I agree Rich but,the smallest die i have is 1" with a 5' radius, other wise i would have made one like in your link, my steps i made out of 1.25 and that is with a 5" radius.. I wondered about newer one's from a junk yard, problem is there so darn far away from me. found a 5in drive shaft moly loop left over from when i was still building, i think i figured something out with that for the A piller but im gonna look into the over head ones from maybe craigs list in my area. Again thanks, great ideas.
Got it, not quite what i imagined but im happy and its sturdy. Ordered chrome powder coating so i can do that, the step's and the push bar i made. I am gonna look for some factory ones for over head both sides, thanks again guy's.
Good eye Rich, door panels were on when i bought it. The bat's in the camera went dead when i took the 2nd pic, i havent felt like going back out yet. Were powder coating stuff here tomorrow, that will be satin black steps and push bar will be chrome.
I have a set of those door panels in the shed from someone too. They have the holes/places to put large plastic push pins thru the panel to mount them to the door. No worries on breaking the back mount tabs come removal time there.
Just messing with you anyway, I am sure more pics are a coming. That handle set up looks real good, how was installing the rivnets/nut-serts? And where did you get yours from?

The factory panels look better but with the push pins on the outside there so easy and quick for removal of the panel, and yes less apt to crack something. Heres another pic, i moved it out along the welded pinch lip, 1/4" carriage bolt coming threw from outside hidden under the weather strip. It will look much better once we powder coat it satin black today, it doesn't seem to be a distraction from sitting on either side of the seat. Thanks bud.
