First Posting... 1962 E100 Pickup

Hi there,
Finally got my old truck to fix up. I bought my 62 E100 Pickup as a 75% done project that the previous owner abandoned. It's about 75% there parts-wise as well. The stuff that's been done has been done well, now I'm trying to locate the necessary parts to get her rolling down the road. It has a 80s 250 straight 6 block, 60's head, with a c-4 automatic. I'm not sure, but I believe "Rosey" entered the world with a 170/3 on the tree.

The problems I'm having are; locating an alternator bracket, lining up the water pump pulley with the main crank pulley, fitting a new HEI distributor under the doghouse, and mounting and wiring the new electric fuel pump.
Since it's already a resto-mod with this engine and drivetrain, I've decided to make a few functional changes as well such as a new Champion Radiator and weber 2 bbl (32/38) carb, some nice mags, headers and a nice dual exhaust, but am trying to keep the rest as stock as possible.

I'd like to locate 62 rear bumper, if anyone out there knows where I can get one I'd appreciate the heads up. Here in San Diego, the bone yards are all so picked over, I think about the oldest cars in there is mid 80's. Also, I have a few extra parts I could part with as well. I'm finding anything older than a 300 straight 6 is real tough to find.

I'd be happy to share any of my (limited) knowledge of early Econolines (My first car as a lad was a 66 Supervan). I'm giving thanks in advance, as I'm happy to find this forum and am anticipating asking for help for restoration issues from time to time.

Thank, Aztecmike

As much as like FTE, this section of the forum doesn't get a lot of traffic, VintageVans.com has the market pretty well taken care of.

Aside from that. Do you have any pictures of the pickup?

Can you fabricate? Concerning an alternator mount it may be easier to make one. There has been a guy on Seattle Craigslist that's getting rid of a LOT of small six parts, might be able to get him to ship or I could get things from him and ship. Also, when I lived in Az I often went to Casa Grande Auto Wrecking and they had a few early Econolines, that's IF you want an 8 hour road trip but it is right where the 8 meets I-10.

FYI, the rear bumper from a 1961-1964 Econo van or the 1961-1967 Econo pickup will be the same as what you need.

The easiest way to solve your height issues with the distributor and likely the new carb will be to get a 65-67 doghouse which is taller, uses the same lid. The 250 is 2" taller than the stock six.

Many thanks. I'm pretty new to this sort of vehicle, and have a few mysteries to solve. I'm trying to get some info on my real differential unit. It seems like a very small unit. I intend to drop it out and refurbish it along with the brakes. Do you know where I might get some info on it? It has a tag, and I have the numbers off it, but none seem to match anything. It has a 8 hole cover on the rear, and it looks like a front third member removal. I'd really like to find an aftermarket alloy type rear diff cover.

I drove mine to Randy's Ring & Pinion and they said they couldn't even get parts for it, hopefully yours is different. I swapped the rear axle out of a Jeep Cherokee into mine.

They are a 7 1/4" ring gear I believe. Parts are available. Post the number on the tag and the axle number from your VIN plate, I'll see what I can tell you.

As for the diff cover, I doubt any shiney covers were ever made for them unless they were made for the early Mustangs.

Here is a page on the two Econoline axles. Decipher your axle tag there.

If you can find an Econoline 9" axle, get it.
