I had to take off a VERY minimal amount. Minimal enough that if you aren't paying attention you may really never notice. But, as a mechanic I'm somewhat **** with my stuff and it was something I noticed. I think the extra washer would have made it a hair short. There is very little space to work with between the side rail and frame.
Thanks for the heads up. I will pay close attention to this. I'm just glad that I don't have to remove the side rails. I found the hardware in the box still that is to be used with the ford prep kit airbag install. Still in the bag as I used completely different hardware with the B&W gooseneck on my 2011. Glad I kept that extra hardware...
Hmmm... Maybe an extra flat washer under the bolt head would work? How much did you have to take off of the end of the bolt? I'm trying to visualize what the install looks like with these factory side plates.
I'd rather eat worms than to have to pull the wheels for this install, but if I have to I will..
Make sure they are Prime big fat juicy worms.........
Try them fried.........
Hey, y'all talking about that big bolt that bottoms out on the fifth wheel hitch frame. I went through this too. I just added an extra flat washer on that bolt so that it wouldn't bottom out on the hitch bracket.
It's very close to bottom out and may be fine without the extra washer, but I think the washer was the right call unless you grind down the bolt a bit. Sure was tricky getting that thing in there and threaded. I used a couple magnets to hold things in place.
