Complete eng rebuild kit

I'm looking online for a complete eng rebuild kit but I can not find one for a 65. The earliest that they come is 68. I know ford kept the same eng for a long while, I just wanna make sure it's the same before I purchase.

1965 ford f100
4.9l inline 6

In 1968 the piston wrist pin diameter was increased from 0.912" to 0.975". That is the only difference that I'm aware of that would cause a kit to be labeled 1968 and after only.

The 68 kit would work then? I've got a factory manual and parts manual for the truck but I don't have anything for the engine. Anyone know of one and finally why can't I find new engine block?

I can't tell you what will and will not work without knowing what is included. The 300 has long been discontinued so you're never going to find a new engine block. Sounds like you want things done the easy way. Why not just buy a freshly rebuilt engine? They're available out there.

Lol....I thought straight eng swap would be the easy way out. I have no idea how the block looks. I'm trying to get my bases covered prior to tearing into it. I'm assuming my truck has 166 thousand on it so the block may in fact be in good condition.

Not to disagree with you at all, but the FE 427 side oiler has been discontinued for what I think is a lot longer timeframe than the 300/4.9L and I just picked up a never used NOS 427 side oiler block. Still has the factory cosmoline on it and the paint markings for the original bore dimensions. Came with some LeMans rods, too.

If one can find a NOS 427 side oiler perhaps there are some NOS 300 blocks still out there somewhere??

I wouldn't doubt it at all, but is it worth the time and expense to find one?

A 427 I'd say yes, but for a 300 prolly not, no.

I also have a 1966 dated 300 I-6 in one of my 4x4 trucks. The info about the change to the wrist pin diameter is good stuff. I always wondered what changed in those first few years. Thanks for that info!!

In 1968 they also added an oil spit hole in the connecting rod. This is undesirable for performance applications. Snappy snap snap.
