Just bought me a truck... Any pointers?
Im new to the forum so please bare with me. So after failing to find a half *** decent early 90's f150 for a decent price in my area I caved in and bought a 2000 f150 4x4 with a 5.4. It was own by a woman and has been pretty unmolested other than the body lift and front guard.
Here it is.
It has 160k on it but runs great. I have a couple questions tho.
First: I the ride is a little bouncy and feels like the struts are probably blown. I would like to get some bilsteins but can't figure out which ones work for my application. If my truck has a body lift do I need struts for a lifted truck or regular since the suspension components are still the same?
I was thinking these for the rear
Bilstein B6 HD Shocks and Struts AK2284 - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing
And these up front
2000 FORD F-150 Bilstein Shocks and Struts - 4WD Drivetrain - Front passenger side Shock Position - Free Shipping on Orders Over $99 at Summit Racing
And the last thing I wanted to know was, is there anything I should be looking out for as far as maintenance or any particular issues or common problems that these trucks and or engines have after 160k. Thank you for any input or suggestions.

Looks pretty nice
sounds right on the shocks...chat up on summit customer service line or go to a local service shop and ask about weather the 5100 series shocks are correct. They'll need to know the amount of lift done to match correctly.
straight from Bilstiein >>>http://cart.bilsteinus.com/search/mm.../drivetype=4WD
As for maintenance.... get as much information from the Former Owner (FO)as possible.
Unless the FO has receipts that show that its been done recently. Then do as much as you can as you can afford it
If the spark plugs have not been change...I would do that. while you got the plugs out do a compression check...its a good indicator of the relative health of the engine
Change all the fluids, antifreeze, gear oil in the differentials, power steering fluid , transmission fluid & engine oil and respective filters.
also the fuel and air filters and the PCV. as well as the serpentine belt
Listen for those creeks and growns and pay attention as to when it/they happen, (stopping , turning right or left or just hitting bumps & going forward or reverse), they are signs of front end components ready for service.
