1997 Ford F150XL 2WD 4.2LT.
Today I replaced the 2 upstream O2 sensors and I got it running,But still has a slight miss. And still running like crap.
And I tried to start it an hour ago and it won't start,It acts like it wants to start,But won't.
This is what I have done in the last 4 months:
New;
Air filter
Mass Airflow Sensor
Spark Plugs
Spark plug Wires
Fuel Filter(was very dirty when draining fuel from old filter)
PCV and Elbow
And 2 years ago,I replaced the EGR Valve(new),EGR Vacuum Solenoid(new), and DPFE Sensor(used)
BTW,I sprayed some Carb and Choke cleaner around the intake and vacuum lines and no change in the idle pitch.

That usually doesn't work, the computer is too fast.
Today I replaced the 2 upstream O2 sensors
Those sensors do not cause the problem, they report the problem.

Probably unrelated to the original problem.
The 4.2 of that era was very prone to intake gasket and isolator bolt leaks.
Verify you have the correct fuel pressure. Insufficient fuel volume at pressure is one of the possible causes of your fault codes.
Use your scan tool and monitor either the short term fuel trims or the upstream O2 sensor voltages and do your spraying around the intake. When the flammable gets sucked into the intake, you'll see it.
Okay,I'll have to wait.Money is lower now and can you recommend a cheap but good code scanner? The last codes I had done at O'Reilly auto parts.
Since I put the O2 Sensors in the check engine light has not come back on.
And I just went out and tried to start it and it did start(Idle very rough)and it smelled very rich while running.
Get a BT-OBDII adapter off ebay, about $25. Buy the Torque App, for less than $10. You'll then have what you need
Ok thank you and I have a new issue,
The Check Engine light has not come back on yet.
I went out to start the truck and got a hard start(took 4 try's).
And when it did start,It backfired and stumbled all the way to the store.Backfired and lose of power until I floored the throttle.
Still running like crap.
Well here is what the codes are now P1537/P1538;Intake Manifold Runner Control Stuck Open.
Now the truck has not run for about 2 weeks.Afraid to drive it.
