Questions

I just purchased a '95 f150 w/351. It has 90k original miles. It was owned by an older gentleman who has taken great care of it. I was just curious of anything i should do to service the truck besides oil every 3k? I am also looking into putting a lift on it is there a specific brand that rides better than the rest that particular year? If i do go with a lift should i go 6 inch w/35s or 4 inch w/33s. thanks for your help!

Nice find! As far as servicing it, most of what we learned from the time we had our first vehicle applies--I'd suggest a Haynes manual, or a Chilton's if you can't get ahould of the Haynes, to help you along with specifics. Not sure about the lift, as my truck is a 2WD, but check your state and local regulations before lifting it--you might be okay with 33s and begging for a ticket with 35s. If it were me, I'd go with the 6-inch and 35s, which are relatively okay in California the last I heard.

Yep.....Great find!

Anytime I get a "new" vehicle.....I spend a few bucks to tune it up. Plugs, wires, cap and rotor, check the belts and hoses and replace any I don't like, change the fluids "ie" radiator flush, tranny, oil, filters.....in other words I put all the maintenance items at a starting point for me. I keep a little notepad in the glovebox with all the dates and receipts too.

In this case, you may know what has been done by the PO and if you do then just record it all to remind yourself when to re-do.

The manual will be invaluable! A small multi-meter and a vacuum tester will help you down the road in finding things that are going to happen.

The 4X4 guys will jump in with ideas for your lift and tires. Us 4X2 guys aren't much into that. Enjoy it and Good Luck.

Just a suggestion, use Motorcraft oil filter, wires, copper plugs, and cap and rotor. For some reason these motors really like the OE stuff. Check for rust on the fuel tanks, oil pan and suspension brackets. Good find, mine had 90k on it when I purchased also, 6yrs ago, 170k on it now.

well if you go with the 4" it will handle little better . But who cares right.

If you truck has 3:55 rears and you live inflat area the 6" with 35" tire would be ok . I go for 4:10 anything over 32" but it really hilly here . It also help move those big tires and may help MPG some.

But having had both I like the 4" and 33" Best little hassle from the law . can stick with stock gearing for most part. And handle the curvy hilly back roads better. And still look cool . But hey its up to you and have fun with it.

I will agree with Navy Jet Mech about the manuals, but I recommend investing in both... The Haynes manual has some stuff the Chilton's doesn't have, and vice-versa. Every time I get a new vehicle I don't know a lot about, I get both. You'd be surprised how much is left out of one that the other has...
