my 86 F350 has started to leak air and I'm hoping the separator is the culprit. its all stock / original and only 73k miles. I could in theory place this where the OEM fuel filter is couldnt i and just run this. I bought the FM100 and liek the options etc it has. Id prefer to not [place it on the firewall and if i dont need both fuel filters..... I could just bypass the stock separator.

About a year ago I installed a new water separator. My truck previously had a Racor unit from the 80's that was letting a lot of air into the system. I did some research and ordered the Stanadyne FM100 system (ordered from thedieselstore.com). It seemed a bit cheaper than the equivalent Racor units. I should note that it uses push-on filters as opposed to the standard spin on kind.
I'm not out to say that this system is better than a Racor system or even going the route of the 7.3 setup, however, I'm just posting it so you can see that there are different options out there. I've been happy with my system.
