I've got a 2003 F250 Crew Cab (V10 obviously). I had to change to an aftermarket tank (Transferflow) so this got me thinking about making an improvement to the exhaust. An MBRP system was recommended to me, but I wasn't sure the $300 or so would be worth it (aluminized not SS). I'm just not sure it will result in any upgrade over the stock exhaust.
If you are looking for performance without the noise and your stock tail pipe is in good shape then just replace the huge stock muffler with a different one. I took a chance on a Jones Max Flow and it turned out surprisingly quiet. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...r-install.html Another good choice that I have used on a 05 I had was a Dynomax Super Turbo #17792(it has 3" core) This is a little louder than the Jones. No need to spend big $ on a cat back.
I just had some exhaust work done on my 03 about a month ago.
I debated a long time about doing headers. In the end, I just couldn't pull the trigger on $1000 for what I estimated would be minimal gains over just doing the Y-pipe mod and a new muffler. If I were towing north of 10,000lbs regularly, perhaps I would've spent the extra for the incremental hp gain. But just not worth it to me, IMO. I also went with a straight-thru Magnaflow muffler design. The sound is outstanding. No drone whatsoever, a bit louder than stock but never obnoxious. Just about perfect. With my new exhaust setup, and 5-star software, I figure (hope?) I'm within spitting distance of the stock 3V horsepower numbers. My next serious mod will be a gear swap.
My rig may be well over a decade old at this point, but she still brings a smile to my face every time I drive it -- which is more and more often now that gas is $1.90 in my neck of the woods!
The only "upgrade" from a cat-back is sound-wise. It won't help performance, not one bit.
Headers help, but that's another pain in the butt
Any brand specifically? I've been reading & see a TON of suggestions but when folks/companies swear by all these GAINS, it seems questionable. Sometimes you get what you pay for but everyone is always glad to take all the pennies they can from you.
I just got a 2001 F250 V10 & am trying to arrange the perfect exhaust setup to grab those few hp / mpgs left lol plus improve the sound...seems like Magnaflow is a top choice by V10 owners - the SS suggestion seems like a no brainer but GLAD I read it here.
THANKS!
