I have a 2004 F250 6.0 4x4. I bought the truck used in December 2008. It has a MBRP 5" turbo back exahaust system (no kitty). It does have the MBRP muffler. I don't mind the sound of the truck under normal driving, but I tow a 10k travel trailer from time to time and when I am driving across Texas all day the exhaust noise gets on my nerve. The engine noise is fine, it is just the exhaust droan (I guess you would call it a droan) between 2,000 and 2,500 rpm. While some younger folks may enjoy it I don't.
I don't have much knowledge about after market exhaust systems. Do I have any options without going back to a stock muffler? Do other manufacturers offer other muffler options that may be a little quieter without being too restrictive? I have even thought about insulating the bottom and back wall of the cab, but I don't know how much that would help. Any thoughts or suggestions would be appreciated.
On previous diesels I have owned it didnt get droany untill I removed the kitty. I wouldnt want to have one but it may be a way to quiet it up a bit. Maybe you could change exhaust tips. If it has a large tip that may add in as an "echo" tip type thing. Not sure but maybe.
Thanks for the responses. I was under the truck today and realized it is a Magnaflow, not mbrp. I don't know what I was thinking.
It does have a larger tip on it. I may try removing it to see if it makes a difference. I would guess that adding a cat back to it would negate some of the benefits of an after market exhaust right?
