I find this engine pretty accessible. It looks busy under the hood, but everything is laid out a lot better than the 2 previous PSDs in my opinion. Was it the primary or the secondary pump that failed?
Primary pump.
He had added about a gallon and a half of coolant in the last 6 months.
My water pump was leaking about 8 months ago. Had it replaced on warranty.
Now I have the cursed radiator leak. Local dealer can't touch it as they don't have a cert diesel mech - neede because it's an underhood item apparently.

Nearest dealer is a 3 hour drive. Sweet. Not.
With all the diesels a ford dealer sells, how do they get away with not having a diesel tech?
They have had a few, but can't seem to keep them. They sell plenty of diesel SDs and should have one or two. They have one or two coming up from America but won't be here for a few weeks.
I have to figure out if I can get the Anch dealer to fix the rad same day so I can go up and back same day. Fun. Not.
My primary was replaced just recently under engine warranty.a 2013 also. Sucks that a truck with 47k miles needs a radiator and water pump. Everybody says the bugs were worked out in 11-12s....think again

1970 olds cutlass, new, water pump failed at 12400 miles. Warranty's back then were 12 mo. 12,000 miles. Guess who ate that one. Nothings changed, just longer warrantys and things are more complicated and expensive.

. The radiator has been an issue since 08 and many have had good luck installing Mishimotos. I think this is one of the first times we have heard about a water pump.

Ive seen a number of reports of failed water pumps.
Water pumps don't seem to be an area where industry has tried to improve anything in years. Just did one last year on a relative's hemi and I'm gearing up to change the ******* again next weekend.
If you get 100k miles on a pump, you have done well. If you get more, then you are doing really well. Water Pumps typically don't last the life of the engine.
Heck, even my vaulted 7.3 got its first water pump under warranty. Second one was on my dime. Averaged about 60k on those pumps....lol. If i remember correctly that pump was $300 bucks too.

My '96 F350 7.3 PS, never had anything changed out on it other than maintenance stuff in 168K, when I traded it in.
I don't consider my experience with the 7.3 to be poor, it was good to me. But my 6.7 to date, has outperformed it from a repair/maintenance standpoint, knock on wood. Factor in the rest of the truck it's not even close......
