i just got done installing a new in-dash stereo. everything went great thanks to help from this forumn. the only thing now, is when i turn my stereo off it makes a beep, beep, pause, then beep, beep, sound from the door speakers. its real faint, but i can hear it. the other thing is when i turn the geadlights on the stereo goes off for second then comes back on, salso when i turn the lights off it does the same thing. i tested the wires that i hooked up to, to make sure which one was full time 12 volts and which one was the 12 volt key on. everything works. also, there were a wire or two that i didnt use. could i have hooked to the wrong 12 volt, key on, wire. i remember seeing a post, or site, that showed which wires to use from your old wire harness but cant find it. i went to the install doctor site but cant access the wiring portion, im on the web.

Go back and double check that each wire, one at a time is hooked up properly. For nowrun the full 12v wire (16 gauge minimum) right to the battery postive post, and the ground to a screw into metal on the body (it wouldn't hurt to run it to the battery ground for now). Now try it. If your problem is solved, make the positive connection into a permanent one, and get a good ground. So many problems are caused by inadequate grounds. It doesn't hurt to add grounding straps from your engine block to the body, and another from the battery negative to that body ground.
I dont know what kind of Head Unit you have but on most Pioneer and Sony Head Units if you dont take the faceplate off they will beep at you to remind you and it is through the front speakers.
Did you hook up the dimmer feed on the stereo to your dash wiring? That could be the cause of the flicker when you turn the lights on and off.

never thought of that, beeping so i wouldnt forget to remove the faceplate. the radio is about 8 years old and the instructions are long gone. ill try removing the faceplate and see if that does it, im sure thats the cause of the beep beep. as for the wiring, i simply found a constant 12 volt and hooked that to the constant on the sony and then turned the key to acc. and hooked that 12 volt to the 12 volt on of the stereo. i dont think the sony has a wire for when you just turn the light on to light up a display of any kind. its either on or off. but i think, now, that the original radio would light up with the running lights.
