I'm seriously considering a dash cam for times I'm hauling our 5er. The 'new' drivers seem to think that they are impervious to sudden stops such as being wedged in their Prius under the front bumper of a very large Super Duty (or other brand truck). I've lost count of the times one of those characters just kinda drifts on to an interstate travel lane at well below the moving speed while blabbing into their hand held device. Or have been two lanes over and decide that they need to exit - and we are already at the exit ramp. That's just a couple examples.
I've been looking at the Black Box G1W or one of the E-prance models, both of which are 1080P and in the 50-60 buck range plus the cost of a micro SD card, or dirt cheap in comparison to other types of cameras.
Any comment or pluses/minuses?
Then there is a back up camera for our 5er as well ......... (or my *gasp*fully trained wife which might be possible though is for sure, not less expensive). This might be another thread unless there are recommendations on that as well
I use a 50 dollar 4Sight Cyclops 1080p Full HD Dash Cam with a 8gb mini sd card for in my small MX5.
Great picture, also at night you can see what happened in front of.

Thanks -
Looks decent but unfortunately could only find Home Shopping Network that carries it and at a hundred bucks though there was a front/rear dual version elsewhere. I like the size especially.
I wanted a small one, and it's hidden behind my review mirror....you really have to look from the outside to see it......when its to big, people will notice it and get aggressive.

My thoughts as well and possibly why I may end up spending more money then I had hoped.
I would love for it to loop automatically say every 8 hours... or guess I could just swap out an sd card every so often...
Depending on the card GB size, most dash cams do loop after X number of hours though I will be carrying a spare micro SDHC card in case I need to save a 'scene' to compete with the Russian crazies on You Tube
So far, the Garmin @~ $200 seems to be one of the better and a bunch more then I had hoped to spend.
I use a 8gb mini SD Card, and that is good for about 1.5 hour in highest settings, before it rewrites....mine takes also a 32gb ( 6-7 hours )
the camera shuts off auto, when you turn of the ignition.
I just keep on a-lookin'. If I go cheap ($50), it will be the G1W. If my ship finally docks without sinking at the breakwater, the Garmin or Lukas in the 160-200 buck range. Doggone but there are a bunch of different brands available though no big company has really taken on the 'challenge' of leading the pack.
Been watching for the $50 cyclops, but it's 3 times that price now !
And thanks for making me spend my Christmas Money IC
At your service for that endeavor.
Let us all know how they work. I've not only helped you spend money, I've done a bunch for myself - like ordering a longer exten$ion cord ye$terday for the 5er.
I've bought many thousands of dollars worth of electronics gear and other from this outfit and have rarely had a dud.. They have some in there that are pretty inexpensive. Certainly you do get what you pay for - but I think their markup is one of the lowest I have seen and have fair/low shipping charges.
