Seat belts

Thinking about replacing the 1978 Olds Regency seats I installed in my '76 F350 supercab several years ago. I found some replacements that were removed from a 2011 F150 with Lariat trim, and only 49K miles. My question concerns seatbelt fitment. Will the seatbelt receiver attached to the 2011 seats be compatible with the OEM belt in the truck. There was no issue with using it with the Olds seats, so I'm assuming (hopefully) that seatbelt buckle/clasp design has been standardized. I know the length will not be an issue, but not sure about the "clasp". I hope one of you pros can set me straight on this.

Thanks

Does your truck have only lap belts? And are they the big buckle style? Are the 2011 belts built into the seat, coming out the shoulder? And any way you can get the other end the 2011 seat belt, (the floor buckle piece)?

If the old original 76 buckle end does not work with the 2011 and you can not get the other buckle end coming from the floor end with the seat itself, a JY should have what you need as far 2011 ish buckle end that attach to the floor. With a star bit.....

Sure hope the 2011 belt piece fits the 76 buckle piece.

Seatbelt

My truck has the combined lap and shoulder belt, mounted to the b pillar. The seatbelt receiver is attached to the Lariat seat--there is no "floor buckle piece". I would be using my existing OEM belt, and hopefully clasping it to the receiver on the Lariat seat. BTW, what a "JY"?

Ok so the buckle end of the seat is built into the seat and not attached to the floor, huh? If it was still a stock seat I would bet it goes thru the seat and is attached to the floor again with a star head bolt.

And a JY is short hand for "Junk Yard".

Seat belt

I have pics of seat bottoms and it certainly appears the belt receiver is attached to the seat, and is not passed through to floor anchor. I hope it's okay to provide a link, so here is link to seat bottom picture.

Ok got it, as far as factory seat belts, the buckle end would normally be bolted to the floor pan and sticking up thru the seat.

And I bet on the 2011 same way the buckle end. But yes on the belt reel end it is built into the seat and therefore anchored with the seat frame.

Seat belt issue

Well, I think I've run this one to ground. The male fixture on the end of the '76 seat belt will not fit the female receptacle on the 2011 F150 seats. Planned solution: tig weld the appropriate 2011 male fixture to the '76 fixture. Some trimming/modifying/strengthening will be necessary. I will have the belts from the donor truck, so everything needed to make the mod will be available. If anyone cares to offer suggestions for a different solution, please let me know. Seller confirmed that the female portion of the seat belt is bolted to the seat frame, and not the truck floor.

Just post up some pics of the job when you finish it. I have a newer set of buckets also with the belt reel built into the seat at the shoulder, and I never even thought about the tail end and what I am going to have to do there.

Should not be an issue for you since you'll be using a "new" belt with the appropriate male end for your "new" seats's female fixture--either attached to the seat or bolted to the floor. Depending on temps next week, I may start swapping the seats. My new ones should be here in Northern VA sometime next week. I will post pics when completed.

2004/2014 F150 Super Cab: The outer belts bolt to the rear "suicide" doors.

Depending on where the seat is located, this outer belt can become a choker, as it's very close to ones neck. Not pleasant!

2004/2014 F150 Super Crew: The outer belt bolts to the B pillar.

Neither of these newer belts are compatible with 1970's seat belts as their male/female ends are different.

Seat belt

As I described in a previous post, my intent will be to use my existing shoulder/lap belt (attached to the B pillar), with the male fixture modified to fit into the newer style female receptacle attached to the 2011 F150 seats. I will have the correct male fixture tig welded to the old male fixture, trimmed as necessary to allow proper welding, strength and fitment. If anyone has a suggestion for a better way to do this, I would certainly appreciate your posting your ideas.

FYI, I've been using the '78 Olds Regency seats with the OEM shoulder/lap belts with no problem for 28 years; the 78 female receptacle was the same as OEM. Since the new seats will be positioned in the same location as the Olds seats (and the driver's seat is powered), I don't expect any adverse issues with the belt's location across the body when latched.
