I agree that I also get annoyed when newbs drag up old threads. But if you feel the need to bring it to their attention, you can do it tactfully and without putting them on the defensive. That being said, coming onto a forum new is like coming into a garage where you don't know anyone or how they react to things. Best to keep quiet, observe and choose your words and topics wisely until you get a feel for the place. If you are thin skinned and looking for a reason to be offended, you will probably find it.

As a moderator on 2 boards I deal with this issue time to time , when a thread older than 1 year is brought back to life we will lock the thread to prevent further posts and let the person know to start a NEW thread on the subject and LINK the old thread for reference . I do not know if this board uses dedicated subforum moderators like we do but it works great to have someone able to see and take care of issues in a timely manner . That avoids the drama like what has happened in this instance .

Waay back in the usenet days, it seems to me the protocol was to find a thread on the subject at hand and continue with it. I think the idea was to avoid a gazillion threads duplication, etc. Other than the amusement of somebody replying to a 10 year old question I don't see it as a big deal, at least not get all bent out of shape about it. I don't understand why they would be locked either.

Tedster9 , the reasoning behind that is to avoid the posts being added to it bashing the person who dug it up . I do agree with you that it would be easier and actually better to have ongoing threads on a subject matter with a wealth of information rather than 500 little threads on that same subject with little to no information to help the users . Personally I would rather read 20 pages of 1 thread helping me with a problem than to search out 20 separate threads that lead to no help at all . Admins of this board and other boards set out the way they want it done so it is what it is ..........................

Stang I am a member of a forum that has mods for sub forums and also super mods. They are the most power abusive people that I have ever seen. They remind me of Mall Cops. I am sure there is some kind of police on this site but they sure don't seem to make their presence known mush. I like that

Say anything in a crowd and someone will be offended, the same goes for actions. It seams to me that people get offended way to easily now a day's and over the stupidest things as well.

My personal feelings ~ don't get offended with others that get offended.

Jack

Much ado about nothing IMO.

It would be an issue if it were happening daily, but its once in a blue moon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_moon

I hate asking redundant questions or questions that seem simple, but often it is difficult to find the answer to a question by searching. Either people abbreviate and that doesn't show up in a search or you get 20+ pages to a search query and its to time consuming to read through every thread looking for your answer.

So its simple and easy to ask again or bring up an old thread.

Either way, why do some people get their panties in a wad over something so trivial as this?

I had a question about an old post, so I searched about it.
I found some information, and had another question.
I posted the question in the old topic, and did not create a new topic.

Why didn't I create a new topic?
- because someone would have replied with "This topic has been discussed before, use the search feature.(newbie blah blah)!!!.

So, I post in the old topic, what do I get for a response:
- 'newbie alert blah blah.""
- 'thats old news....'
Well, yeah its old news, we have old trucks, ya *&^@#$% (you know who you are)

What kind of help is that!!?

So anyways, I guess this forum is not for me, as I am not welcomed.

And to call me a newbie, I was probably posting on BBS many years before you were even born. Don't forget, you were a newbie once as well.

Happy New Year to you all veterans, newbies, nOObs, and everyone in between.

Thank you to all who did help, and to those who didn't, I hope you don't get the help!

Im sorry to hear you have had a bad experiance, stick in there buddy and you will find the people that really do want you to be part of FTE and are helpful. im sure there is allot you could also teach them as they teach you, thats what makes a forum great, is helping each other with information from the past, present, and future.

Jeeez ladies, pat yourselves on the back for sticking up for a new guy. Way to go. Instead of letting a thread die, you want to praise one another for helping. A few threads ago someone else did this same thing and was bashed repeatedly by many members. NO ONE stuck up for him. Must be in the name.

As it can be seen apologizing means nothing here. You Ladies who have FEELINGS should get together and knit a cry towel.
For the other people on board thanks for speaking up.
Bring on all the bashing you wish, I have no feelings nor do I care.
For those that want parts find them elsewhere.

Don & FTE,

Guys, I am confused; are we not allowed to promote products we use? Last fall I said how much I loved POR15 Engine Enamel and Frame paint and I have been recommending it here and there... Did I get infraction points? Is it something to do with A****l specifically?

If we have a product that works or one that we "swears by" we cannot promote it (even if we are not getting kickbacks from the company)?

Not looking to start anything; just wondering so I am clear....

Thanks, Happy New Year Everyone

Don: Why .. when typing Amsoil .. does this constitute an infraction? I've seen this product listed in multiple posts in dozens of different forums over the past 8 years.

Just for the heck of it, typed it into the search box. 32 pages of threads came up!

I read thru a couple of these threads, didn't see anyone that got an infraction for typing Amsoil.

WOW !!! go to the paint and body section and see how many name brand products are recommended and praised in there !! You can bet none of them are sponsors on here either yet those names are OK to mention in every other thread .
Sorry you had the hammer come done on you TBird Larry !!!!
