I have a 2000 F150 5.4L with 157k miles on it. I think it has the 4r70w trans. The transmission has started holding 2nd gear too long before shifting into third. Throttle position doesn't matter, it does it even under light throttle. I do not have a check engine light. I have owned the truck since new and the trans fluid has been changed 3 or 4 times. The fluid looks pretty good now, not burnt or anything. The truck has been sitting in the garage a lot over the past 2 years, I drive it at least once a month and have put maybe 2000 miles on it this year. It shifts fine through the other gears, just 2-3 has an issue. Truck has the towing package.
I have a 2000/Ford E-150/4.2 V6 /4R70W Trans.139000 miles .About 21 days ago I lost 3rd and 4th gear on a hot day in Florida .Wife has cancer and money is very tight. I did all kinds of reading on problems it might be? I found a Trans shop that would rebuild the 4r70w for $650.00 with a new converter if I pull and install it myself. In my shop I have 32oz of Lucas Transmission Fix on the shelf. My last resort was to change the filter and fluid . I still only had 1st and 2nd? I thought? Why not! After I put the Lucas Trans fix in the 4r70w ! The next day I had 3rd and OD back but rough shifting? Today we drove about 80 miles and it is shifting like it is NEW!WOW. If you have the same kind of problems? Give it a try before you rebuild! Thanks to Mark Kovalsky for all of your great post and info on this site!
I changed the fluid and filter on mine and it has been fine since.
Well I thought I had it fixed but the problem has returned except now it goes into neutral and revs the engine before 3rd gear catches. To answer Mark's earlier question, the OD light is not on or flashing and works like it should.
