i went with stage one injectors, all new glow plugs, now truck is hard to start when cold 20 degrees or less, and when it does loobs really bad. i know its a california truck up here in northern mn. but i didnt have this much trouble even with a bad glow plug code. and thoughts on this
Sounds like one of your under valve cover harnesses may be loose. Unplug the connectors, meter the pins for resistance. Each of the front two pins and rear two pins should show about 2 ohms from pin to ground. The very middle pin is the ground for the injectors. Meter the other four pins to this one; you should see about 3 ohms for each injector. If you find any open circuits, pull that valve cover and check the harness connection underneath. And do the $.50 mod.
What year Cali truck? Early ones have relay and are cheap to change. That was my problem. It clicked but still was bad. If you plug it in is it hard to start?

Paul's pic shows it. The factory harnesses will back out and lose connection over time. Countless 7.3 owners have experienced this, and your symptoms follow that problem. Ford has a "upgraded harness" fix available, or you can use a grinder and fit a quarter in each harness (for a grand total of $.50), which physically keeps them from coming apart.
Your issue could be from something else, but if you follow my suggestion and resistance-check the pins at the valve cover, you can verify that quickly and easily.
