I have a 99 f350 with door lock issues. They act like they don't have enough power to unlock, I have already replaced the actuators but it has not helped. The locks will move up and down but without enough authority or range of motion to unlock the doors. This is both front doors. Where do I go next? Very frustrated!
I have heard of the gem module going bad and causing this but like you my door locks on my 2000 do not work either. I was going to try the new actuators or the actuator mod.
Well, I've already replaced the actuators and it didn't make much difference. The locks seem to pop down with some authority but when unlocking they barely move upwards. Almost like not enough power to move them upwards. I did not clean and lubricate the lock assemblies. I guess to eliminate all possibilities I will tear the doors apart again and clean the locks.
Redford, I tried degreasing and lubricating both locks. Low and behold it fixed them. Guess I never need new actuators! Sometimes we forget the simple things. Thanks for getting me on the right path.
I have the same problem on my 2000 F350 crew cab. Do you remove the door panels like those in older trucks, prying around the edges to pop them off? Thanks.
Same problem in my '01 also. Instead of investigating the problem or even the thought of replacing it, I've gone with the long arm/gentleman method. Ladies love it but they don't know the locks are stuck
I have a 2000 F250 Super Duty, Super Cab and I just removed the driver's door panel (4 times before I fixed it right). It is the easiest door panel that I have removed over the years.
1. The black cover on the backside of the mirror should just pull straight off.
2. The console with all of your controls will pull up at the front end (back end is a tab). Disconnect all of the molex plugs for the power mirrors, windows, locks, etc. Behind this console is the first of 2 screws that have to be removed.
3. Look for the door light on the bottom left or right side of the door (depending upon which door you are repairing) and pry the plastic lens cover off. Once the lens has been removed, you will see the 2nd screw that needs to be removed.
4. Once both screws have been removed, gently lift the door panel up to disengage all of the plastic "hooks" that hold the panel onto the door. Before the panel can be freed, the door light needs a quarter turn to release it from the panel.
5. Panel removal is complete.
I hope this helps. Also, there are videos on YouTube if you need to see it done.
**Just a quick note: if you mess with the wiring to the power door-lock solenoid, make sure the wires are pulled back out of the way when you are done. If not, your window could catch the wiring when it is rolled down and rip the wires apart. (evidently the previous owner of my truck didn't know this)
