Why 5 1/2' box?

so all the dealers in my area are getting the platinums with only 5 1/2' boxes. dealer next to me has 3 in right now but i really want a 6 1/2 box. does anyone else order the longer box or just staying with the smaller ones? i might order but hate waiting plus i can't decide what color to get. have black now but i have only seen a white lariat, silver platinum. how is the white platinum? i am not sure on white cause it always looks like a work truck to me.

Platinums only come in crew cab config, thus most are 5,1/2 box unless the dealer orders a 6,1/2 box, 145" is the most popular wheel base, you could have a dealer do a search for you.

I'm not a big fan of the 5.5 box but the CC 6.5 box won't fit in most standard garages.

Yeah and that's a lot of truck for sure. Of course the SD trucks are bigger with a 6 3/4 foot bed or an 8'.

I ordered my Platinum with the 6.5 foot bed because I need more room to haul stuff. But I agree it's a big truck.

i have a lariat with 6 1/2' box and 4 door cab. like it just hopefully everything will fit. i see the garage problem luckily i have a big one. also how will the shorter box handle a heavy trailer? will it be better or worse? has anyone seen the white yet? thinking it might not be bad with black wheels

If like previous models with CC & 6 1/2 bed, then you're 157" wb & you get the 2 piece driveshaft. Hope they've fixed the shudder issue with them. That's why I traded my '11 cc with 6 1/2 for a '12 SC with 6 1/2. I have a '15 SC ordered, (wish it would get here).

Platinum white is amazing, no way anyone will ever confuse that truck with a work truck. Check out the pictures of the King Ranch in Platinum white on the "has anyone gotten get their truck yet" thread.

The dealers in my area do the same thing with the 5.5 box, and it seems that black is a color they think will sell. If i do find a 157 wheel base its almost always black. I currently have a 145 inch wheel base super cab 6.6 ft bed and want to jump up to a crew cab but that 157 inch wheel base is going to be a pain. I have problems now with parking in some area's around New Jersey with the 145 inch wheel base and an extra foot of length on the truck will make difference.

Its not getting into a parking space that's the problem its the truck sticking out of the space that kills me, like if you park in a airport parking garage or a downtown area to do some shopping. I think the longer wheelbase would make towing long distance a little better but i believe spec wise you lose about 200 lbs capacity with the longer truck.

About twice a year I could use the longer bed. The other days honestly I could use a two foot bed.

When I bought in 2010 the 6.5 bed came with the 36 gallon tank vs. 5.5 bed came with a 26 gallon tank. While a shorter truck would be better for parking, the extra 40% fuel capacity for towing was a clincher for me. Not sure if the 2015's still have the same fuel capacity discrepancies.

Not that many years ago you could not even see a 5.5 foot bed on the road. Seems trucks have become SUV's.

I use my truck as a station wagon 90% of the time. To be honest, I could get by with a Ford Fiesta or something tiny, as it's just hauling me around a big city.
The other 10%, I'm pulling 7700lbs of travel trailer.

I'd love to have that longer box, maybe two days a year. The rest of the time, I'll take my "soccer dad" vehicle without complaint.
