front blower problem

as of this morning, my front blower only works on speed 3 and 4. 1 and 2 both do nothing.

do these still have the old school resistor for the blower controls?

figure i'll dig into it in the next couple days to find out where the problem might be.

thanks in advance for any help!

Yes, there's a resistor pack that is used with the blower speed switch to control blower speed.

Inspect both ends of the harness connectors and the switch and the resistor pack, you'll find the problem.

Yes but before you blindly change parts, keep in mind the problem could also be the wiring or a bad speed selector switch.

was indeed the resistor.

it's cold outside so i didn't spend a lot of time trying to chase it down before replacing the resistor. I just got under there, unplugged the old, plugged in the new and tested it on all speeds for a second with the new resistor just hanging from the harness. everything worked, so i swapped them out. I wouldn't do that for very long though as the resistor needs the airflow from the blower to keep from overheating.

a tip for anyone that needs to change it out: drop the glove box door and get at it from that. it's a direct shot and super easy to get at with the glove box door out of the way. I tried it from the bottom but getting under there is near impossible.

easy 20min job.

I believe you can do that on the newer models, but older models have a backing behind the glove box that is in the way.
