Im in Virginia so the winters are not to cold here yet. Was wondering how many of you guy are plugging in your trucks. I use to have it on a timer but I was thinking,, is that thing controlled by a thermostat? Seems like it would be so it wouldn't just get hotter and hotter. thanks.
I usually try to plan ahead and night before use I plug her in. I don't know why but for some reason I use 25* as a low temp to even to think about it. Right now the high is 15* and the low tonight will be near 0*!! Friggen cold!!
To answer your question, no there is not a thermostat to turn it on/off. It has been thought of and used on the plug end for the Duramax if you choose to pay extra for the cold climate package.
The heater will only get to about 120 at the most if you leave it plugged in 24/7, cooler in colder weather. If your truck starts in the cold then you don't "need" it. I use mine all the time even though it doesn't get that cold here. It saves a lot of fuel heating up 1000lbs of engine and some 15 gallons of fluids.
It doesn't get real cold here in Tennessee, but I still plug it in just to help with the charging system, and to get heat sooner. I plug mine in all night, usually about 9 hours. I have seen temps at 141 degrees when starting it the next morning (coldest so far was about 20). I get instant hear, truck starts like it was just drove, and the stock 110A alternator doesn't have to wear itself out to bring the batteries back up. It costs me 77 cents to run it for 9 hours.
