92 explorer lifter noise

i have a 92 explorer 4.0 and had lifter noise at start up went away after driving but when changed oil it got worse and wont go away. have tried several aditives but to no success. any body have a sugestion

Are you using a fram oil filter? What weight of oil are you using?

92 explorer lifter noise

i am using a fram ph8a and 5/30 oil i hope i dont have to replace lifters i found out they are pretty spendy at 35.00 a piece. any help would be great

Besides the lifters being expensive they are also expensive to replace because you have to remove the cylinder heads

Quite often though on a 4.0 the noise comes from the rocker arms and pushrods. The pushrods dont rotate and they wear out the ends on them and the rockers.
