Hey everyone, my 2000 EX 6.8 4wd has a battery draw, do I need to put a jumper wire between the battery post and the cable to "fool" the system before I disconnect the battery cable ? Anyone else had this problem? I looked through the tech folder but didn't see anything on this. Thanks R/Rob

Reason: adding information
Some GM's (maybe others) had modules that would stay on and drain the battery, but when you disconnected the battery to test for a drain the action of disconnecting would turn them off and you would see no drain. There was a tool that you could hook up a volt meter before disconnecting the battery and "fool" the system into not seeing the disconnect and then be able to find the offending module. That may be what he is talking about.
Vwags, ya that's what I was getting at. I found out that as soon as you put the test leads on the cable and battery terminal everything wakes up and I was getting a .345-.350 draw. When I used a jumper wire from the post to the cable then removed it when my test leads were connected the .345-.350 draw only lasted about 45 min then it dropped to .030-.035,sleep mode, but it would spike to .055-.090 about once a second. Talked to a parts guy at Auto Zone and he said that a relay might be doing that. Everything I have found so far says that anything over .050ma is a draw. Any ideas?

Well, there's good news and bad news. Good news is I found the draw, its fuse 15 under the steering column, bad news is, it controls the logic, pats and gem. It rained like hell here a few days ago and ya my windshield leaks so I know that's the reason, got everything opened up and drying out. Called Ford about new weather striping and all I can say is WOW!! $100 apiece for the roof rail w/s, of course its part of my leak issue. Safe Auto will do the glass for 125 here, its the 4-5 hundred extra to replace the seals that's killing me lol Still, Ill take my 14 year old leaky EX any day !!
After chasing a drain for months on mine I found the 6 disc stereo was the problem. Of course I found it while driving thru nowhere and no radio or anything was killing me. We made it halfway to Kansas from SoCalifornia before losing the radio. Now a cheap Pioneer and the music is better plus no more dead batteries.
