Can someone decode my VIN?
Ford F-150 SuperCab 4x4 sport. I know I have the 5.4L V8 and 3.55 LS rear end. What I'm interested in is what the brake code means and is the 4R70W transmission a good one.
My VIN is: 1FTRX18L02NB71xxx
My door sticker has the following info:
TR = U
SPR = 6N
AXLE = H9
BRK = B
The Domestic special order code is: 2F514 FOA
What is a domestic speical order code? How much is safe to tow in this vehicle?
I just purchased this truck with 8,000 miles on it and so far seems to be running great.
I also have the 12 bolt rear end. Any stats on this?
Any info would be appreciated,

My VIN is: 1FTRX18L02NB71xxx

1FT - USA, Ford Motor Company, Truck, Completed Vehicle
R - 6,001 - 7000 Lbs.
X18 - F-150 (SuperCab) Styleside, 4x4
L - 5.4L EFI-SOHC, eight cylinder
0 - CHECK DIGIT
2 - 2002
N - Norfolk (Norfolk, VA)
B71xxx - production sequence number
4R70W is a good transmission, as long as it is not bolted to a V6. At least that is what I have heard.
I believe that the brake code has to do with the GVW of the vehicle.
Should be a 9 3/4" rearend and a 8.8" in the front.

Any info would be appreciated,
TR = U =Transmission is 4R70W (knew that one already)
SPR = 6N = Spring component (part ID's, not axle (actual) weight
codes) -
Front 6= 5B326 (RH), 5B327 (LH) w/ torsion bar
(designated as an F-150 4X4)
Rear N=5560
Translation- GAWR 3600lb front, 3550lb rear
AXLE = H9- 3.55 Limited Slip w/ 12 bolt inspection cover= 9.75" ring gear-semi floating axles. 4200lb rating. Kind of hard to find parts for, but aftermarket parts exist.
BRK = B - classification for 4 wheel abs, 4 wheel disc, hydraulic actuated w/3900 lb front axle (rear systme is the same for all F-150s)
That domestic special order code I've never figured it out fully. In the old days it meant that it was a fleet or special order vehicle... not too sure now.
Tow ratings for this vehicle are as follows -
GVWR = 6500lbs... how much the suspension is rated for.
Max Payload = LWB (8' bed) - 1555 lbs, SWB (6.5' bed) - 1725lbs
Theoretically your truck weighs somewhere between 4950 and 4800 lbs dry.
GCWR = 12,500lbs... how much your truck, trailer, and everything you put in them can weigh when added together.
Max Trailer weight = 7,500 lbs this number reflects what your truck weighs when only filled with fluids... keep that in mind. It doesn't mean you can actually tow that much.
Sorry for the soap box version, but I have some pretty dumb friends who claim they can tow a lot more than their vehicles are really rated for.
Try to keep it between 1500 and 2000 lbs less than the rating and keep the tranny fluid changed every 15,000 miles if you do severe towing (like 3,000 miles towing for every 12,000 miles you don't tow) and you should be fine with the 4R70W.
Hope that answers a lot of the questions you have.

I'm only going to be towing a 2,500 - 3,000 lbs boat a couple times per year.
I appreciate the quick response,
